Tokamak Cooling Water Systems – Drain & Refill System: Refill/Transfer Pumps (Normal Drain Tank, Refilling/Transfer Pump, Neutral Beam Injector Drain Tank Refilling/Transfer Pump, Auxiliary Drain Tank Transfer Pump)

The Draining and Refilling System (DRS) provides a means for draining the Primary Heat Transfer Systems (PHTSs), Tokamak Cooling Water System (TCWS) piping and in-vessel components such that maintenance and inspection can be performed and systems can be refilled after maintenance or inspection operations are completed. The DRS piping system is designed to provide primary confinement of TCWS fluids including Activated Corrosion Products and tritium entrained in the cooling water and maintains leak tight integrity during all operating modes.  The DRS pumps are not part of the safety related cooling trains and do not perform safety related refilling/transfer operations.

Within the DRS, the Refill/Transfer Pumps serve the specific functions: The Normal Drain Tank (NDT) Refilling / Transfer Pump 1 & 2 serve the function of filling the Integrated Blanket/ELM/Divertor (IBED) PHTS or can be utilized to transfer inventory to the Safety Drain Tanks (SDTs).  The Neutral Beam Injector (NBI) PHTS Drain Tank Refilling / Transfer Pump will be utilized for initial fill and subsequent refill of the NBI PHTS after maintenance and inspection operations. NBI PHTS Drain Tank Refilling / Transfer Pump can also be aligned to transfer contaminated water from the NBI drain tanks to the Waste Collection Tank (WCT) should the water not be suitable for refill.  The Auxiliary Drain Tank (ADT) Transfer Pump, serves the function of transferring water drained to the ADT from the PHTSs and the divertor cassettes, or the drying system, to the larger drain tanks.
