Tokamak Cooling Water System - Drying System: Nitrogen Storage Cylinders – Design and Fabrication

The Drying System (DYS) provides removal of remaining water from the Tokamak Cooling Water System (TCWS) that cannot be gravity drained and provides gas baking of the divertor cassettes. The DYS should be (a) capable to dry the in-vessel components of the client systems in preparation for periodic leak testing, maintenance or component replacement; (b) able to blow-out (where required) and dry Integrated Blanket/ELM/Divertor (IBED) Primary Heat Transfer System (PHTS), Neutral Beam Injectors (NBI) PHTS and Vacuum Vessel (VV) PHTS loops; (c) able to provide hot nitrogen for gas baking of the divertor cassettes; (d) capable to provide the primary confinement for small amounts of activated corrosion products and tritium during drying operations.

The DYS Nitrogen Storage Tank is installed downstream of the Charging Compressor. The DYS Nitrogen Storage Tank stores nitrogen supply for all modes of DYS operation and may also be used to supply nitrogen gas to the Neutral Beam Injector (NBI) system pressurizer during NBI PHTS operation. The DYS Nitrogen Storage Tank can be either an assembly of storage cylinders or a single tank. This piece of equipment is subject to Pressure Equipment Directive (PED).
