The global ITER project is now more than 55% complete for First Plasma operations. Site construction is well underway in St. Paul-lez-Durance, France, under the direction of the European Union domestic agency, Fusion for Energy, and the ITER Organization. Plant components are in fabrication around the world. Recent accomplishments include completion of the first toroidal field winding pack, manufacture of the heart of the ITER--the central solenoid, manufacture of vacuum vessel components, cryostat fabrication in the on-site workshop and the commissioning of a neutral beam test facility.
